Strategic Grants Pty Ltd is owned and managed by Joanna Garner. Jo has been a Professional Fundraiser since 1994. Holding the international accreditation, Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), and a Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Marketing and IT, Jo’s fundraising career started with full-time positions first with Diabetes Australia Queensland and then with the Mater Foundation. Between the arrival of her two (somewhat adorable) children, Jo did freelance work, consulting to charities in events management and running the secretariat for the Fundraising Institute of Australia (FIA) in Qld.
Jo responded to market demand in 2002 to assist Brisbane-based charities the Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation and Qld Baptist Care (both of whom are still clients), in helping them source grants to deliver their programs and meet fundraising targets. Others including the Endeavour Foundation, RSPCA Qld and the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation soon joined Jo’s rapidly expanding client base. And so began a career that has evolved to the formation of her own company, Strategic Grants.
In December 2009 Jo assumed the position of President of the Qld Chapter of the Fundraising Institute Australia and sits on the national board of directors. Jo is also a regular conference presenter on the grant seeking process, including the Not for Profit Network's 2007 and 2008 INCE Conferences, 2009 International Breast Cancer Conference - Reach to Recovery, the 2009 Inaugural United Way Qld Community Partners Forum, the 2010 FIA National Conference in Adelaide and is also a presenter at various FIA Skills and other NFP sector training courses.
